Uganda

hi everyone...Just wanted to share a website with you, worth checking out. As hopefully, many of you know, Northern Uguanda is still involved in a bloody civil-war. (Has lasted over 19 years). By many accounts, more than 25,000 children have been illegally and immorally kidnapped and recruited to fight in this conflict. What is being done about it? Not much. Click on World Visions' site below to add your name to a petition to take to the Bush Administration, Congress and to the UN to bring peace to this area of the world. Check it out. Pray. As Christians, the very least we are expected to do is to educate ourselves, pray, take action, and not stand idle while such atrocities are happening around the world. Let me know what you think.

We're Off Again!

We have had some exciting changes take place over the last month, and, of course, it is time to post about it on our blog!

Molly and I have had an opportunity to return to India, and we have recently decided to go back for 1 year. Let me tell you how it happened. As those of you who keep up with our blog know, we have been looking for new jobs and both recently found opportunities in our respective fields. However, we found more than we bargained for as we became aware of a need at a children's home in Bangalore, India. We have visited this particular children's home last time we were in India and were so touched when we were there that we have always dreamed of returning at some point.

Tammy, the American woman who runs the home, posted on her blog about a need for a young American couple with a heart for kids to come and join their family for a years time. There was a married couple who has been with her for a couple of years that has just returned to the States, so she has been in need of help. How could we say no? We have recently finalized some of the details and are really excited about it. We will be leaving in January for one year and will be working at the children's home and acting as substitute house parents.

We are very excited about this chance to return to India and feel very blessed to return to this particular home that we were so fond of! This opportunity fell into our laps relatively quickly, but it is something that we feel that the Lord has been preparing our hearts for for a long time.

We have a lot to do before we leave. We have just recently put our house up on the market so keep us in your prayers that things move along with that quickly.

Here are a few pictures of the home in India that we will be going to.

We will try to fill in some more details about our trip as things progress.

Fun in Cincinnati, and a little something for you sports fans...

We went to Cincinnati last week to see my sister, Sarah, and brother-in-law, Dave.  My sister is 5 1/2 months pregnant and she's just so cute!  The baby was kicking a lot while we were there, which was very exciting for Aunt Molly.  We spent a lot of time just hanging out, seeing the city, and baking.  We also celebrated Lucy's (Dave & Sarah's dog) 5th birthday  Good times.

there's more pictures on Sarah's blog.

In other sports-related news.  Our last day visiting Sarah & Dave, we were eating at a restaurant at a hotel in downtown Cincinnati.  We were sitting at the table talking, and Dave's eyes light up and he saw Barry Bonds.  Now for those of you who don't know who he is (I didn't), he's a baseball player for the San Fracisco Giants.  Dave was pretty excited, so I thought some of you sports fans might be.  So Dave said "Hi Barry!" to him...Barry gave him a little nod of acknowledgement...and then Dave snapped a picture of him with his camera phone:

Later that night we saw him playing on t.v. and everyone booed him when he went up to bat.  Guess he isn't the most liked player in the world....or at least in Cincinnati.

Educate them mountain kids!

Hey there.

This is Dylan posting for the first time in 2007.

As some of you may or may not know I have been teaching for the past year at Grace Christian School and have been looking for a job within the local public school districts. And I found one!

I have been hired as a high school math teacher at Lead Hill school (about 30 min drive from Harrison). I had a few pretty intense interviews of late. My last one lasted 1 and 1/2 hours with the principal and superintendent, where, among other things, I had to stand before them and teach through problems on a Geometry test as if they were my students.

I am excited about the job even though it will be a little more tricky than teaching the perfect angels at the christian school. Lead Hill is poor district with 70% of the students being from poor families. In the words of the superintendent, the kids come "down from the mountains" to the school.

In other news, Molly got a new job as well. Since she has come to hate her current job this is GREAT news. She will be working at a day treatment school as a mental health professional. She will be working directly with teachers,, and with students who have behavioral problems.  This is her passion, so she's really looking forward to starting this new job in August.
